The accounts receivable clerk is responsible for performing accounting clerical duties in preparation, processing and maintenance of credit, collections and billing records. Researches, recommends and posts account adjustments and credits. Assists in the research of delinquent accounts. Generates invoices and collection letters. Performs collection tasks on past due accounts and set up payment plans. Interfaces with customers and collection agencies. Traces source and corrects accounts for billing errors and misapplied credits.

Essential Functions

  1. Applies customer payments.
  2. Researches and solves payment discrepancies.
  3. Processes credit card payments and credits.
  4. Makes adjustments to accounts as needed.
  5. Prepares weekly manual deposits.
  6. Prepares weekly reports for accountants.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. 

Physical DemandsThis is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. 


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Some flexibility in hours may be considered.


No travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Two to three years' previous experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Associate degree in accounting.
